During “…Snowman” we see the parents’ funeral. This isn’t obvious because their memorial stones are monoliths and all of the colors are almost greyscale so it looks like a bunch of lumps.
Basically what they want you to get is that Elsa missed her own parent’s funeral because she was locked in her fortress of solitude.
NOW YOU’LL CRY EVEN HARDER when you hear “…Snowman”
Not only is the visual metaphor (Elsa’s ice prison) perfect, the movie also captures how fear and confusion get turned inward and become depression.
The metaphor of the dark, cold room vs the “light of day” is so true to anyone who has gone through depression and come out or anyone who is in depression and craves the “breaking dawn” after the long, dark night.
The reprise scene where Elsa almost connects with Anna but is stopped by the swirling “storm inside of me” gives me chills because that is exactly what it’s like when someone tries to connect with you through depression and all you can see is that terrified reflection of yourself and the storm raging all around.
If you’ve ever experienced depression or love someone who has gone through depression you need to see this movie!
I got this screencap from foxsfandom
